Sony Ericsson Xperia W8 Walkman is the first phone from the Walkman series to run Android. The handset carries the design accents of an XPERIA X8 save for the addition of fresh colors, but under the hood there is a modest 600MHz processor which powers the almost ancient Android 2.1 garnished with Timescape. The W8 has a 3" capacitive touchscreen, 3.2MP camera, Wi-Fi, aGPS, FM radio and Bluetooth.
It comes with the same four-corner shortcut UI as the Xperia X10 mini and X8 smartphones and has quick and easy to access playlists. Like the Xperia X8, the W8 comes with a 3-inch display and features a 3.2MP camera and 3.5mm headphone jack. Also, like the X8 the handset only comes with Android 2.1 Éclair (rather than v2.3.2 Gingerbread seen on recently released handsets).
The phone will be available in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam from Q2 2011 in three different colours (Azur, Metallic Red and the iconic Walkman Orange).
But on the brighter side here are some good things about this W8:-
With the right price tag, the Sony Ericsson W8 could be the entry-level smartphone of choice for those with fond memories of Walkman. The music credentials will be a serious boost to an already half decent package. No doubt, the Xperia X8 needed an update – along with the rest of the Xperia lineup. There couldn’t have been a better (easier?) way to freshen it up than the Walkman branding. It’s fun, fresh and no frills. On top of that – it’s Android.
